Immunization Requirements and Guidelines

GENERAL INFORMATION

As a unit of the University System of Georgia, ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ (MGA) adheres to the Board of Regents Policy (USG Policy 4.8.2) related to immunization requirements for school entrance by students and requires all student provide proof of immunization of specific vaccines verified by their health care provider.  Students should submit their Certificate of Immunization forms upon admittance to MGA.

Immunization Hold

An immunization hold will be added to the student's BANNER account for all immunization requirements not satisfied by thirty days after the first day of the term they are admitted.  The hold will prevent registration for the next term.  The hold can be removed once the required documentation has been received.

To assist students in meeting the immunization requirements, MGA accesses immunization records from the .  If the required immunizations are not in the GRITS system, acceptable forms showing proof of immunity include:

  • An official document from a physician, clinic, or county health department that shows current immunization
  • The MGA Certificate of Immunization signed by a health care provider.   
  • A blood test (titer) showing the student's immunity

REQUIRED IMMUNIZATIONS

  • 2 MMRs (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella)
    • Not required if born before 1957
  • 1Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis) vaccine within the past 10 years
  • 2 doses of Varicella (chicken pox) vaccine or history of disease
    • Required for all US born students born in 1980 or later
    • Required for ALL foreign born students, regardless of year born
  • 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine for persons aged 18 or younger at time of expected matriculation.

RECOMMENDED IMMUNIZATIONS

While MGA does not require vaccination against the following diseases, students are strongly encouraged to be aware of the risk factors, symptoms, and preventative measures for these diseases.

Students, especially those living in on-campus residence halls, are at a higher risk for Hepatitis and Meningitis and should be educated about the availability of a safe and effective vaccine which can decrease the risk.
