Curriculum Development Overview

Curriculum and course development, changes, and evaluation are shared responsibilities among the faculty at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ. As noted in the MGA Faculty Handbook under Section 5.04.04 Curriculum Development,

“Curriculum and course development, changes, and evaluation are responsibilities of every teaching faculty member.”

All modifications or additions to the MGA curriculum must follow the established processes outlined on the university’s curriculum management webpage. Proposals submitted by faculty or representatives of a departmental/school curriculum committee require review and formal approval from:

  • Department Chairs and School Deans
  • The Office of Academic Affairs
  • The MGA Graduate Council (Recognized Senate Affiliate) (as applicable for graduate programs, courses, policies, etc)
  • The MGA Academic Affairs Committee (Senate Standing Committee) (all undergraduate and graduate programs, courses, policies, etc)

Depending on the nature and scope* of the proposal, additional approval may also be required from:

  • The MGA Faculty Senate
  • The University System of Georgia (Board of Regents)
  • University System of Georgia System Office
  • University System of Georgia Regents Advisory Committee
  • The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)
  • Specialized Accreditation Bodies

*Policy changes, program modifications, new programs minors, , etc.

Curriculum proposals are managed using MGA’s online Watermark Curriculum Management System. Forms are completed electronically and automatically routed through each level of review. For assistance with the software, please contact Rachel Podwolsky in the Office of Academic Affairs. Instructional videos on how to navigate and use the system are available .

Curriculum approval histories may be found digitally within the CMS or may be requested from the Office of Academic Affairs.

Because curriculum development and approval can be a complex and time-sensitive process and may require a number of levels of review and approval (internally and externally), faculty are encouraged to carefully review and adhere to all deadlines. Key dates and timelines are available on the Curriculum Calendar linked on the same page.approval dates and deadlines.
